The Lexus LFA electric supercar debuts with a fake V-8 roar [Video]

July 13, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 1

This is a car story, not a home energy story, so there's little here that touches your own house. Lexus showed off an electric version of its LFA supercar at a UK car event, and it's not something tied to any home upgrade or rebate program.

The short version: Toyota's Lexus brand is turning its old gas-powered LFA supercar into an electric model, sharing parts with race cars it's also building. A prototype ran at the event with fake engine noise piped in to mimic the sound of the V8 it no longer has. The car is expected to launch in 2027, and Toyota has said it may be the first vehicle to use its long-promised solid-state batteries, a technology that charges faster and holds more energy than today's batteries, though Toyota has pushed back that timeline several times before, so it's worth being skeptical.

None of this involves home batteries, solar, heat pumps, or anything with rebates or efficiency programs for houses. If Toyota's solid-state battery work ever does pan out, it could eventually matter for home battery storage down the line, since car and home battery technology sometimes borrow from each other, but that's speculative and years off. For now, this is simply news about a low-volume sports car, not something that changes any plans for your home.
