Tesla unveils first Cybercab with Starlink antenna integrated

August 10, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 1

Tesla's robotaxi division has shown off the first Cybercab with a satellite internet antenna built into the roof, working with Elon Musk's other company, Starlink. Photos posted by Tesla show a gold Cybercab at its Texas factory with the low-profile antenna visible near the "Cybercab" badge. This follows an earlier reveal in July that showed the integration as a diagram rather than a real vehicle.

For homeowners tracking this out of general interest in Tesla, there's not much here that touches your own house. The Cybercab is a self-driving, two-seat robotaxi that doesn't need internet to operate — its onboard computer handles the driving. Tesla says the satellite link is meant to help track robotaxis in remote areas, though the service currently only runs in a few cities (Austin, Houston, Dallas, and Miami) where regular cell service already works fine. The company still can't sell these vehicles or run them without a person on board, despite having built more than 100 units.

The real relevance for anyone thinking about home energy costs is a side note: as electricity rates keep rising, charging an EV with your own solar power is one way to avoid being at the mercy of utility price increases. If you're weighing that option for your home, it's worth checking what solar and financing programs are available in your state.
