Mitsubishi Electric to Build IT Cooling Equipment in Ohio

August 4, 2026 · ACHR News · Score: 38

Mitsubishi Electric is setting up a new U.S. company, MEHITS US Inc., to manufacture cooling equipment for data centers and IT systems at a facility in Mason, Ohio. The company plans to invest about $30 million to repurpose part of a plant currently used by Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, with production expected to start next April.

This move is aimed at meeting rising demand for equipment that keeps data centers and other computing infrastructure running efficiently, driven largely by growth in AI technology. Mitsubishi says building in the U.S. will shorten delivery times, help ensure steady supply, and let it tailor products for local needs like energy savings and efficiency. It also plans to expand into liquid cooling equipment as part of the lineup.

This is industrial and commercial news rather than something that changes options for home heating and cooling equipment. The products involved are for large-scale IT and data center cooling, not residential heat pumps or air conditioners. Mitsubishi's residential heating and cooling lines, sold in the U.S. through Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US, are a separate business and aren't part of this announcement. For homeowners, the news mainly signals that Mitsubishi is investing more in U.S. manufacturing generally, but it doesn't point to any new rebate, product, or program relevant to home energy upgrades.
