Ziehl-Abegg, a German HVAC manufacturer, is expanding its North American headquarters in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, two years after opening the facility. The plant makes high-efficiency air-movement equipment, such as fans and blowers used in heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, for customers across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Since mid-2024, the company's North American workforce has more than doubled, growing from 321 to 662 employees. It now expects to reach about 1,600 employees by 2030, double its earlier projection of 800. The Winston-Salem site, nearly four times the size of the company's previous plant in Greensboro, houses manufacturing, research and development, logistics, sales, and administration in one location. It also hosts the company's second R&D team outside Germany, which adapts products for the North American market.
For homeowners, this is mainly a sign of broader industry growth rather than something that changes your options right away. Ziehl-Abegg's equipment typically goes into commercial and industrial systems rather than the residential furnaces or heat pumps sold directly to homeowners, so this expansion doesn't point to a new product or rebate for your house. It does reflect growing demand for efficient air-movement technology in North America, which may support more manufacturing capacity and faster availability of parts across the HVAC industry over time.
