Xiaomi reveals SkyNomad N90: a living room on wheels

July 10, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This is a car news story, not a home energy upgrade story, but here's what happened: Xiaomi unveiled the SkyNomad N90, a large SUV that's the company's first "extended-range electric vehicle" (EREV) — a car that runs on battery power but carries a small gas engine that only recharges the battery rather than driving the wheels. Xiaomi says the N90 can go more than 1,500 km (932 miles) combined, with 400 to 500 km (249-311 miles) of pure electric range before the gas engine kicks in to keep charging it. Pricing is expected to start around 200,000 yuan (roughly $29,420), undercutting rivals like the Li Auto L9 and Aito M9. A camping version adds a pop-up roof and rooftop bed for overnight trips, and the standard model has swiveling seats and a slide-out center console meant to turn the parked cabin into a small living room. Reservations opened July 9, with launch expected late this quarter.

For a homeowner, the direct relevance is limited — this is a vehicle announcement, not a home efficiency program. But if you already have or are considering an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle like this one, charging it at home is worth thinking about alongside any solar or electrical panel upgrades you're planning, since EV charging adds meaningfully to home electricity use.
