Xiaomi launches four SkyNomad SUVs in China from $31,275

September 7, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

Xiaomi has launched a new lineup of SUVs in China called SkyNomad, starting at about $31,275. This isn't really home-upgrade news, but it touches on technology relevant to anyone thinking about EVs and home charging. The four models are extended-range vehicles (EREVs), meaning they run on a battery but also carry a small gas engine that generates electricity rather than powering the wheels directly. The base model offers 218 miles of pure electric range, while the top seven-seat version reaches 288 miles on electricity alone, with well over 1,000 miles when the gas range extender is used too.

For homeowners with solar panels or considering an EV, the appeal of these vehicles is that they can run mostly on electricity for daily driving, meaning most charging could happen at home. Xiaomi says a fast charge from 20 to 80 percent takes as little as 18 minutes on some models, which matters if you're weighing home charging speed against public fast chargers.

None of these vehicles are available outside China right now. Xiaomi says it plans to expand into Europe next year, but there's no mention of the US. So for now, this is mainly a preview of where EV and hybrid pricing and range are heading elsewhere, not something you can buy or plan a home charger around today.
