We Energies breaks ground on three major energy projects in Wisconsin

August 4, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 28

We Energies, the Wisconsin and Michigan utility, has broken ground on three new energy projects meant to keep the power grid steady during times of high demand. In Walworth County, crews started work in July on a 75-megawatt battery storage facility, part of the Darien Solar and Battery Park, where a 250-megawatt solar project already went online in 2025. In Rock County, construction began in June on the Dawn Harvest Solar and Battery Park, a 150-megawatt solar project paired with 50 megawatts of battery storage. And in Iowa and Grant counties, the 110-megawatt Badger Hollow Wind Energy Center broke ground in July. All three were already approved by Wisconsin's Public Service Commission.

We Energies will be the main owner of the projects, with Wisconsin Public Service and Madison Gas and Electric as co-owners. Invenergy developed and is building them. Company leaders say the projects are part of a broader plan to balance renewable energy with natural gas plants to meet growing electricity demand, while also creating union construction jobs. Altogether, We Energies now has more than 3,000 megawatts of solar and wind power and 600 megawatts of battery storage either running, under construction, or awaiting approval.

For homeowners in the utility's service area, this is mainly about grid reliability rather than any direct rebate or upgrade. It signals that more renewable power and storage capacity are coming online in the region, which could support electricity supply as demand rises, but it does not involve any new incentive program for individual houses.
