Volvo’s next electric SUV will start in the upper $40,000 range

August 3, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

Volvo plans to bring a new electric SUV, the EX50, to US dealerships in 2027. It will replace the EX40 as the automaker's cheapest electric model, starting in the upper $40,000 range, a bit less than the current EX40, which starts at $56,545. The EX50 will be bigger than the EX40, both taller and longer, and built on a new 800-volt platform shared with the recently introduced EX60. That platform is expected to bring faster charging and longer driving range compared to older Volvo electric models.

This isn't directly about home energy upgrades, but it's worth noting for anyone weighing an EV purchase alongside home charging plans. A lower starting price and a more modern, faster-charging platform could make the EX50 a more practical option if you're considering pairing an electric vehicle with home solar or a Level 2 charger. The car will compete with popular electric SUVs like the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Toyota bZ, and Ford Mustang Mach-E, all in a market still led by the Tesla Model Y.

No firm launch date, exact price, or range figures have been confirmed yet, so anyone thinking about buying this model will need to wait for more details closer to 2027. If you're planning home charging equipment or rebates tied to an EV purchase, it may be worth keeping an eye on official pricing and specs once Volvo confirms them.
