This tiny EV is now on sale in the US for less than $14,000

July 7, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 16

Fiat has started selling its tiny electric Topolino in the US, priced at $13,995 plus a $990 destination fee. It's available in limited quantities through select dealers, in either a standard version or the Dolcevita, which adds a roll-up soft top and rope doors.

At just over 8 feet long, the Topolino is a bit bigger than a golf cart. It counts as a low-speed vehicle (LSV), meaning it's street legal only on roads with speed limits of 35 mph or less. That makes it suited for getting around a neighborhood, beach town, or resort rather than for highway driving. It runs on a 5.4 kWh battery and an 8 hp motor, giving it up to 46 miles of range, and a full charge from a 240-volt outlet takes about four hours. Right now it tops out at 19 mph, but Fiat plans to offer a conversion kit by the end of summer or fall 2026 that raises the limit to 25 mph at no extra cost, while also adding a rearview mirror, backup camera, and pedestrian alert system.

This isn't a car for daily commuting or road trips. It's a low-cost, low-speed option for short local trips, and its narrow use case and limited availability mean it's more of a niche pick than a mainstream EV purchase. For homeowners in gated communities, resort areas, or neighborhoods with low speed limits, it could be worth a look as a cheap way to get around without a full-size vehicle.
