These are the top 10 best-selling EVs in the US so far in 2026
Electric vehicle sales in the US are still adjusting after the $7,500 federal tax credit expired last September, but the market picked up in the second quarter of 2026, with 247,226 EVs sold, up nearly 15% from the first quarter. Over the first half of the year, more than 463,000 EVs were sold total, though that's down about 10% from last year. Tesla still dominates, holding just over half the market. The Model Y remains the best-selling EV by far, with sales actually up 8% from last year, while the Model 3 held second place despite a 34% drop.
Outside Tesla, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 was the top-selling EV, with just over 20,000 sold. Toyota and Subaru both doubled their EV sales compared to last year, with Toyota's bZ model up nearly 90%. Meanwhile, some older models without recent updates lost ground, including the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Honda Prologue, both down more than 45%. Rounding out the top ten are the Chevy Equinox EV, Rivian R1S, Lexus RZ, and Cadillac Lyriq.
For homeowners thinking about EV ownership alongside home upgrades like solar or a heat pump, the market is shifting quickly. New models expected later this year, including the Rivian R2, BMW iX3, a lower-priced Ford pickup, and the Kia EV3, could reshuffle these rankings soon. Toyota also confirmed this week that its first three-row electric SUV, the Highlander BEV, will see delayed production.
