This is Tesla news, not a home energy story, so there is nothing here that affects your house or an upgrade decision.
Tesla posted a video of its Cybercab, an autonomous vehicle with no steering wheel and no pedals, driving itself across a parking lot at its Gigafactory in Texas. The company said "Cybercab employee rides" at that factory are "starting soon," but gave no details on routes, fleet size, or whether rides happen on public roads or only within the private factory lot. It is unclear whether this means a real shuttle service across the large factory campus, or just the short parking-lot loop shown in the video.
Either way, this is not the same as Cybercabs joining Tesla's paid robotaxi service in Austin, which is what people following the program are actually waiting for. That service still uses Model Y vehicles with a human safety monitor on board. The Cybercab has no manual controls, so it can only operate once Tesla's self-driving software works without supervision, and Tesla has said its software needs a major rewrite before that happens. Tesla's current supervised robotaxi fleet in Austin also crashes at a higher rate than human drivers, based on recent figures.
For homeowners, none of this relates to rebates, heat pumps, or weatherization. It is simply an update on Tesla's self-driving car program.
