Revoy hybrid tandem trailer rolls towards reality with $27 million raise
A trucking startup called Revoy just raised $27 million to keep developing a hybrid trailer that slots between a semi truck's cab and its cargo trailer, adding battery power and an electric motor to cut diesel use on long hauls. The money, led by Standard Capital with several other investors, will go toward a cheaper "second generation" version with a smaller battery that still aims for similar fuel savings. Revoy has finished a year-long test with trucking company Ryder Systems and plans to add more of these hybrid trailers along a Pacific Northwest route by year's end, with dozens more expected in service by 2027.
This is trucking industry news, not something that touches home energy upgrades directly. There's no rebate, appliance, or home system involved. The technology itself is debated even among truckers: the added trailer weighs about 22,000 pounds, which can force trucks to carry lighter loads to stay under legal weight limits, and it only recharges at a handful of swap stations in Texas and Arkansas, with more planned for California and Oregon.
For a homeowner, the practical takeaway is minimal. This is about how freight companies might shrink diesel costs on highways, not about anything you'd install, buy, or apply for at home. Worth knowing only as background if you're curious about how transportation is shifting toward electrification alongside home heating and appliances.
