PVFarm rolls out RE STACK software for utility-scale BESS planning

August 14, 2026 · PV Magazine USA · Score: 21

A software company called PVFarm has launched a new planning tool for large, utility-scale battery storage projects, called RE STACK. This is not something homeowners would use directly, but it's worth knowing about because it points to how fast grid-scale battery storage is expanding.

The tool helps engineers quickly test different layouts for battery installations, figuring out how much equipment fits on a site, how to arrange access roads, and how to connect everything to the power grid. Previously, this kind of planning relied on manual work across spreadsheets, CAD software, and mapping tools. RE STACK lets engineers plug in specifications from any battery manufacturer and try out many site designs fast, rather than building each option by hand. It works across different regions and lets engineers set their own local rules for spacing and setbacks, though the company is clear that engineers still have to check their designs against actual fire and building codes.

For homeowners, this news is really about infrastructure happening at the utility level, not about home batteries or rooftop solar. But faster, cheaper planning for grid-scale battery storage can matter over time: more storage capacity on the grid can mean better use of solar and wind power, and potentially more stability during peak demand. There is no direct action for homeowners here. RE STACK is priced for engineering firms and developers, at $2,880 a year after a free trial, and is aimed squarely at the professionals designing these large battery projects.
