Polestar Has Record Sales in 1st Half of Year, But Facing Big Challenge
This isn't directly about home energy upgrades, but it touches electric vehicles, which some homeowners pair with solar or home charging setups. Polestar, the electric car brand, reported record sales of 30,423 vehicles in the first half of 2026, with 17,296 sold in the second quarter and 13,127 in the first. The company's CEO pointed to strong growth in the UK, Germany, South Korea, and the Iberia region, along with an expanded retail network now at 235 locations, up 39 percent from last year.
The bigger news for American shoppers is that Polestar is being pushed out of the U.S. market. Because the company was developed by a Chinese automaker and its vehicles use connected software, a new federal rule bars sales of the cars in the U.S. starting with the 2027 model year. The U.S. Commerce Department recently denied Polestar's request for an exemption from this rule. That means anyone hoping to buy a new Polestar in the coming years will need to look elsewhere, and existing U.S. dealers and buyers may see fewer options and less support going forward.
Despite this, Polestar says the U.S. isn't a major part of its business, and the company expects to keep growing even without American sales. For homeowners weighing an EV purchase to go along with home charging or solar plans, this is a reminder to check which models remain available domestically before making upgrade decisions tied to a specific vehicle brand.
