PACCAR brand DAF to add Level 4 Einride autonomy to its electric trucks
This is news about commercial trucking, not home energy upgrades, but here's what happened: DAF, a heavy truck brand owned by PACCAR (which also owns Kenworth and Peterbilt), is partnering with Einride to add Level 4 self-driving technology to its electric trucks. Level 4 autonomy means the truck can drive itself without a human behind the wheel in most conditions, though a person can still take over if needed. DAF already sells electric trucks ranging from a smaller model for city deliveries to larger long-haul versions, and this partnership will bring Einride's self-driving system into that lineup.
Einride has already run Level 4 electric trucks on public roads in Belgium and on private roads in Ohio, and has been building out fast-charging infrastructure to support these trucks once they're produced in larger numbers. Partnering with a major manufacturer like DAF gives Einride a way to actually build and sell these trucks at scale, rather than just testing them.
For homeowners, this doesn't affect home energy upgrades, rebates, or your own electricity use. It's a freight-industry story about how shipping companies may eventually move goods using electric, self-driving trucks. There's no rebate, deadline, or program here that touches your house.
