Hyundai recalls a whopping 14 IONIQ 5 and Kia EVs, warning owners to park outside
This one is a car recall, not a home energy story, but it's worth noting if you own one of the affected vehicles. Hyundai has recalled a small number of Ioniq 5, Kia EV9, and Kia EV6 electric vehicles because of a battery defect that could cause a fire. The recall covers six Ioniq 5s from model years 2023 and 2024, one 2024 Kia EV9, and seven Kia EV6s from model years 2022 to 2024. The problem traces back to misaligned electrodes in battery cells made by supplier SK On during a specific production run. Hyundai says it knows of no fires, crashes, or injuries so far.
Owners can keep driving these vehicles, but Hyundai recommends charging only to 80% and parking outside, away from buildings, until the fix is done. Dealers will replace the battery system assembly for free, regardless of warranty status. Hyundai plans to mail notification letters on August 31, 2026, and Kia will send its own on August 7, 2026. If you think your vehicle might be affected, you can call Hyundai customer service at 855-371-9460 (recall number 305) or Kia at 1-800-333-4542 (recall number SC375), or check the NHTSA website for details.
This is a very small recall, limited to specific vehicles built during one production window, so it does not affect most Ioniq 5, EV6, or EV9 owners. If you're not sure whether your car falls into the affected group, the dealer or NHTSA lookup tool can confirm it using your vehicle identification number.
