GMC marks 25 years of Hummer with limited ‘ICON’ EV as sales sink 55%
GMC is celebrating 25 years of the Hummer name with a limited-edition Hummer EV called the ICON | 25, featuring a yellow paint color inspired by the original H2, a black interior, and serialized badging. It's mostly a cosmetic package for the 2027 model year, offered on higher trims of both the Hummer EV pickup and SUV, with pricing to be announced closer to production later this year.
More relevant for anyone considering an electric truck: every 2027 Hummer EV now comes with a native NACS charging port, the same plug Tesla uses, so it can charge at Supercharger stations without an adapter. The trucks also keep their vehicle-to-home feature, which can power a properly equipped house during an outage if paired with GM's separate charger and hardware kit. Five new exterior colors and new wheel options are being added as well.
The update comes as Hummer EV sales have dropped nearly 55% so far this year. Part of the reason is that the federal $7,500 EV tax credit expired in late 2025. The Hummer EV was always priced too high to qualify for that credit on a purchase, but leasing used to offer a workaround, and that option disappeared once the credit ended. For homeowners weighing a large EV like this, it's worth knowing that pairing an electric vehicle with home solar can help offset the higher running costs, and options like leasing solar with no upfront payment exist in many states.
