Ford’s affordable EV pickup is named Fathom, and it will start at $28,350
Ford has named its upcoming affordable electric pickup the Fathom, with pre-order prices starting at $28,350 before a $1,595 delivery fee. That's for the standard-range model. The truck goes on sale in early 2027 and is the first vehicle built on Ford's new "Universal EV Platform," a design meant to simplify manufacturing and lower costs.
Ford hasn't released official battery range figures yet, but the company has emphasized aerodynamics and efficiency, and expectations point to at least 300 miles on a charge. The truck will use LFP batteries (a lower-cost, longer-lasting battery chemistry) built at Ford's battery plant in Michigan. Every version comes with a large touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Ford's hands-free highway driving system called BlueCruise, a digital key, and bidirectional charging, meaning the truck's battery can potentially send power back out, such as to your house during an outage, though details on that use haven't been spelled out. It will also be the first vehicle with Apple Maps built directly into the dashboard, offering real-time navigation and EV-specific routing.
For homeowners, the relevant pieces are the price point, the bidirectional charging capability, and the built-in NACS charging port, Ford's version of the plug type used by Tesla's charging network, which means access to a wide public charging network. Whether the truck fits into home backup power plans will depend on details Ford hasn't shared yet, including how the bidirectional charging works with home systems.
