Ford’s $30,000 EV pickup makes this full-size SUV look massive

July 7, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 28

This is car news, not a home energy story, but here's the gist. Ford is working on a new electric pickup truck priced around $30,000, smaller than the discontinued F-150 Lightning, aimed at buyers who want something more affordable and efficient. It's built on a new Ford platform and was recently spotted testing next to a full-size Expedition SUV, showing just how compact the "midsize" truck really is. Ford says the truck will actually have more passenger space than a Toyota RAV4, despite its small look from the outside.

The truck uses newer manufacturing methods, including large single-piece metal castings and a battery chemistry called LFP (lithium iron phosphate), both aimed at cutting costs and weight. Ford also says the truck's shape cuts wind resistance by more than 15 percent compared to other pickups on the market, which the company says will stretch its driving range and help keep the price down. It will be Ford's first EV to use the newer NACS charging plug, the same connector Tesla uses, which matters if you're thinking about home charging equipment down the road, since compatibility affects what kind of charger you'd install.

The truck is set to be built at Ford's Louisville, Kentucky plant and go on sale in 2027, priced at roughly $30,000. Nothing here requires any action from homeowners now, but the NACS charging plug is worth noting if you're already planning a home charging setup for an EV purchase in a couple of years.
