Ford’s $30,000 electric pickup will have Apple Maps built in with EV routing and more
This is car news rather than home energy news, but here's what it covers: Ford and Apple announced a partnership to build Apple Maps directly into Ford's upcoming electric vehicles. Starting with a midsize electric pickup coming in 2027, Ford's new electric models will use Apple Maps for turn-by-turn directions, along with routing built for electric vehicles and battery preconditioning (warming or cooling the battery ahead of charging for better performance). This runs on Ford's new "Universal Electric Vehicle" platform.
Ford also plans to use Apple's map data to improve BlueCruise, its hands-free highway driving system, aiming for smoother handling of highway entrances and exits. That work is being done by Ford's in-house self-driving team, Latitude AI.
The pickup itself is expected to cost around $30,000, with Ford CEO Jim Farley describing it as a simple, affordable option meant to reach more buyers. Prototypes have already been spotted in testing ahead of the 2027 launch.
For homeowners, this doesn't affect rebates, electrical panel needs, or home charging setups directly — it's about in-car navigation and software, not the equipment you'd install at home. If you're considering an electric vehicle and thinking about home charging, the relevant details to watch for are things like charging speed, battery size, and any home-charger requirements, which haven't been detailed here.
