Every 2027 GM EV will plug directly into Tesla Superchargers
GM is making it easier for its electric vehicles to charge at Tesla Superchargers. Starting with the 2027 model year, every EV from Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC will come with a built-in NACS charging port (the plug design Tesla created, also called J3400). That means owners can plug straight into compatible Tesla Superchargers and other NACS fast chargers without carrying an adapter. The change covers the Cadillac Escalade IQ and IQL, Lyriq, Optiq, and Vistiq, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Blazer EV, Equinox EV, and Silverado EV, and the GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV and Sierra EV.
If you already own or plan to buy a 2026 GM EV, most models still use the older CCS1 port and need GM's NACS adapter, currently priced at $275, to use Tesla Superchargers. The 2026 Cadillac Optiq and the redesigned Chevrolet Bolt are exceptions, since they already have the new port built in. Owners of 2027 vehicles will instead need adapters to use older CCS1 fast chargers or J1772 Level 2 chargers, including some home charging equipment, which GM sells separately or as a bundle.
GM is also rolling out an app feature called Energy Pass, built into its Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC apps, that lets drivers pay across Tesla Supercharger, IONNA, Electrify America, and ChargePoint networks, with EVgo coming soon. Some stations support automatic sign-in and payment through the vehicle itself. For homeowners with a GM EV or one on order, the main things to check are which model year you have and whether you'll need an adapter for your home charger or preferred public network.
