EDF power solutions secures PPAs with NV Energy for 400 MW solar-plus-storage project

August 19, 2026 · PV Magazine USA · Score: 16

A large new solar and battery storage project is coming to Nevada, though it will take a few years to come online. NV Energy, the state's utility, has signed 25-year contracts to buy power from the Winston Energy Project, a 400 MW solar farm paired with 1,600 MWh of battery storage in Lyon County. The project is being built by EDF power solutions North America and is expected to start delivering electricity in October 2029.

The project is designed to work with a new high-voltage transmission line NV Energy is building, called Greenlink North, which will run about 235 miles from Ely to Yerington and is due in service by December 2028. Once running, the Winston project is expected to produce about 1.11 GWh of renewable power a year and generate $100 million in local tax revenue, with more than 400 workers employed during peak construction.

For Nevada homeowners, this is a sign that more solar-plus-storage power is being added to the state's grid over the next several years, which utilities generally point to as a way to keep electricity supplies steady and support future rate stability. It does not involve any rebate or program homeowners can apply for themselves — it is a utility-scale power deal, not a home upgrade incentive. EDF, which develops solar and storage projects across North America, already operates other solar and battery facilities in Nevada and has additional projects in development in the state.
