BMW’s iX4 EV captured with a new look as its debut nears [Images]
BMW is adding a new electric SUV, the iX4, to its lineup as a 2027 model. It will replace the current gas-powered X4 and take on a sleeker, coupe-like shape compared to the boxier iX3 SUV that BMW already sells. The iX4 was recently spotted testing at Germany's Nürburgring track, giving an early look at its styling, including BMW's redesigned grille, ahead of an expected debut by the end of this year or in early 2027.
The iX4 will share its underlying technology with the iX3, which is already on sale. That means buyers can expect similar battery and charging capability: the iX3's largest battery option offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 434 miles, and the car can charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 21 minutes using a fast charger. BMW hasn't confirmed exact specs for the iX4, but says it will offer two all-wheel-drive versions, and industry expectations point to a range of at least 400 miles, possibly over 500 miles under European testing standards.
Pricing for the iX4 hasn't been announced, but BMW indicates it will cost somewhat more than the iX3, which starts at $61,500 in the US. For homeowners thinking about EV charging at home, this is a preview of another long-range option coming to the market, though nothing about pricing, incentives, or availability is finalized yet. More details are expected closer to launch.
