Aptera announces nationwide repair network for its upcoming solar electric car

July 14, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 18

Aptera, the company building a solar-covered, three-wheeled electric vehicle, has announced a nationwide repair partnership ahead of actually shipping any cars. Working with a company called RepairPal, Aptera will give future owners access to about 4,300 certified repair shops across the country. RepairPal doesn't run its own shops — it certifies independent local shops to work on specific models and gives them access to Aptera-specific repair procedures.

Not every certified shop can handle every kind of repair. Around 200 of the shops are certified for high-voltage battery work, while the rest can handle more routine jobs like tires, brakes and hinges. This matters because small EV makers have historically struggled to offer service once cars are on the road, and some past startups that folded left owners with few repair options.

Aptera still hasn't shipped a vehicle. It recently received an EPA "Certificate of Conformity," a required regulatory step, but is still waiting on federal safety certification (FMVSS), which applies more rules than the EPA step. Aptera's vehicle is classified as an "autocycle," similar to a motorcycle, so it faces fewer safety requirements than a standard car, but still needs this certification before it can be sold. The company is currently taking refundable $100 reservations. For anyone considering one of these vehicles down the road, the repair network is a reassuring sign, but real-world service quality won't be clear until Aptera vehicles are actually on the road.
