Another state adds a way to report reckless e-bike and e-scooter riders

This is a bit outside the usual energy-upgrade beat, but here's the news: Washington County, Oregon has added a new option to its online traffic complaint form specifically for reporting unsafe e-bike and e-scooter riding. The sheriff's office made the change after deputies noticed more reckless behavior, especially among younger riders, over the summer. Complaints have included riders weaving through traffic, speeding, doing wheelies on roads, and throwing objects at cars.

The form lets residents submit the location, time, and a description of an incident, along with photos if they have them. The goal isn't just to log complaints but to spot patterns, so the sheriff's office can decide where to focus education efforts or enforcement. Officials note that much of this behavior is hard to act on unless an officer sees it happen, so collecting reports over time is meant to build a clearer picture of trouble spots. The online form is only for non-emergency issues; anything requiring an immediate response still goes through 911.

This follows a similar effort in Colorado earlier this year, where a state program asked residents to report reckless riding. It reflects a broader pattern of local governments trying to address a small number of unsafe riders without cracking down on the much larger group who ride responsibly. If you live in an area dealing with similar complaints, it may be worth checking whether your own city or county has set up a comparable reporting tool.
