Zero will soon add the main feature its electric motorcycles have always lacked
This is about electric motorcycles, not home energy upgrades, but here's what happened: Zero Motorcycles announced that in 2027 it will finally add DC fast charging to its electric motorcycles, something the company has never offered before. Details are limited since the announcement came via social media rather than a full press release, but Zero confirmed the feature will come to some street and dual-sport models, and that certain motorcycles dating back to the 2022 model year may be able to get an upgrade to support it.
Zero's bikes have relied on AC charging, which requires the motorcycle itself to convert power before it reaches the battery. DC fast charging skips that step, letting a charging station send power directly into the battery, which can mean much shorter charging stops. Other electric motorcycle brands have offered this for years, so the addition closes a notable gap for Zero.
Unanswered questions remain, including which charging standard Zero will use, how much peak power the system will deliver, whether it will require new battery hardware, and whether there will be an extra cost, as there is with Zero's faster AC charging option today. For now, the only firm detail is the timeline: DC fast charging is expected to arrive on Zero motorcycles in 2027.
