What Tesla “Full Self Driving” V14 Still Can’t Do

August 26, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

This is a car story, not a home energy story, so there is not much here for planning upgrades to your house. It is a driver's report on Tesla's "Full Self Driving" software, version 14, written by a longtime owner after three months of daily use in northern Wisconsin.

The writer says V14 is a big step up from the last version he used. The car centers itself well in the lane, handles roundabouts, stops for deer and pedestrians, and can now handle both the start and end of a trip on its own — backing out of a garage, driving the whole route, and finding a parking spot at the destination. A speed setting lets the driver choose how far over the speed limit the car will go, from holding to the limit up to 20 mph over.

He also lists what still trips it up: it won't always find the closest parking spot or his own driveway, it won't back into a garage, and a bike rack on the back blocks the rear camera so the car won't back up with a bike loaded. In one case it ignored a turn-only lane marking because the digital map didn't include it — the same mapping gaps also mean stores can be missing from the map entirely. His conclusion is that until maps get far more detailed and current, fully unsupervised driving isn't realistic yet. None of this involves rebates, dollar costs to homeowners, or upgrade programs for houses.
