Volkswagen’s best-seller has gone electric, and it will replace the ID.4 and ID.5 [Images]
This is car news, not a home energy story, but here's what it covers for anyone curious.
Volkswagen has unveiled an electric SUV called the ID. Tiguan, which will replace its ID.4 and ID.5 electric models. The ID.4 has been Volkswagen's top-selling EV since 2021, with over 950,000 sold. The new model gets a redesigned exterior that looks more like a traditional gas-powered SUV, an updated interior with larger screens, and the return of physical buttons alongside the touchscreen controls.
The ID. Tiguan will come with two battery sizes and three power levels, with a European range rating of up to 372 miles on the version with the larger battery. It can tow up to 4,400 pounds depending on configuration. Volkswagen will start selling it in Germany and other European markets on October 13, with prices there starting around $47,800. Based on the range difference from the outgoing ID.4, the new model will likely offer over 300 miles of range once it's tested under U.S. standards.
Volkswagen plans to bring the ID. Tiguan to North America after its European launch, with production expected to begin in early 2027. Pricing and other details for the U.S. market have not been announced yet. For homeowners who also drive, this is one more electric SUV option to watch for when shopping, though nothing about charging or home setup changes as a result of this release.
