Volkswagen ID. Buzz gains a new rear view camera system and more for 2027

September 10, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This news is about a car, not a home energy upgrade, so it falls outside what Retrofit Relay usually covers. Still, here's what happened: Volkswagen is updating its driver-assist technology, called IQ.Drive, across several 2027 models, including the electric ID. Buzz van, the Atlas, Golf, and Tiguan. The changes include a rear view camera that can detect pedestrians, a feature that lets drivers start a lane change just by using the turn signal, and an "Emergency Assist Plus" that can steer the car to the side of the road if it senses a medical emergency. Cruise control software is also getting smoother.

The ID. Buzz, an electric van, is returning for 2027 after skipping the 2026 model year. It now comes with a new "Tourer" version built for overnight camping trips, updated infotainment, and an optional data service called Road Experience Management, which uses camera data from other drivers to improve lane centering and speed accuracy in low-visibility conditions. That service comes with a one-year free trial. Volkswagen has not announced pricing for the 2027 ID. Buzz; the outgoing 2025 model starts at $59,995.

None of this affects home electricity use, insulation, or rebate programs. If you're weighing an EV purchase alongside home upgrades like a heat pump or a home charger, this is worth knowing only as background on what's changing with one manufacturer's electric van lineup.
