VinFast plans US electric buses – and it’ll handle more than the ride

October 8, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 28

This news is about public transit, not home upgrades, but it's a sign of where electric vehicle technology is headed. VinFast, a Vietnamese EV maker, plans to bring electric buses to US cities, with deliveries of US-approved buses expected to start in early 2028. The company has signed an initial agreement with NexMove, a venture combining a transit operator and a commercial EV charging company, to offer transit agencies a bundled package covering the buses themselves plus charging and maintenance.

VinFast says it already runs about 2,000 electric buses in Vietnam, built with LFP batteries (a type of lithium battery known for being durable and not needing rare materials), fast charging, and driver-assist sensors. No details were given yet on US models, range, pricing, or charging speeds. NexMove plans to set up demonstration buses at charging depots so transit agencies can see them in person, though those early units won't have US regulatory approval. The two companies also say they want to build the buses in US factories that meet federal transit requirements, but no location or timeline has been set.

For homeowners, this doesn't change anything about home energy upgrades or rebates. It's more a signal that electric vehicle makers are expanding beyond cars into larger fleets, and that charging infrastructure companies are increasingly bundling services the way home energy contractors sometimes do with heat pumps or solar.
