This fascinating folding e-bike is lighter than Brompton’s lightest electric bike
This is a bike story, not a home energy upgrade, so it does not affect the rebates or retrofit planning Retrofit Relay usually covers.
British company FLIT has released a new folding electric bike called the M2i, weighing 13.3 kg (29.3 lb). That makes it lighter than Brompton's Electric T Line, a well-known folding e-bike, while costing about half as much (£2,999 versus £5,799). FLIT achieves the lower weight using an aluminum frame built with structural adhesive bonding instead of welding, a technique borrowed from aerospace and auto manufacturing, along with lighter parts like hydraulic disc brakes, high-end tires, and a lightweight saddle.
The bike keeps practical features such as built-in lights and the ability to roll on its wheels while folded, and it folds compactly enough to fit in train luggage racks. Most "lightweight" folding e-bikes on the market still weigh 20-25 kg (44-55 lb), so the M2i's lower weight is meant to make it genuinely easy to carry, such as up stairs or onto public transit.
Since this is a consumer bike product rather than a home energy system, it has no connection to insulation, heating equipment, or any rebate programs. Homeowners looking into energy upgrades for their houses won't find anything relevant here.
