These are the top 10 best-selling EVs in the US through Q3

October 12, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 35

US electric vehicle sales picked up in the third quarter, with 266,630 EVs sold, up 7.7% from the prior quarter and the strongest showing since EV sales peaked a year earlier. Sales were still down 38.6% compared to last year, but that's mainly because buyers rushed to purchase before the federal $7,500 EV tax credit expired at the end of September 2025. EVs made up 6.5% of new car sales in the quarter, up from 5.8% in the second quarter, though still below the more than 10% share seen a year ago.

Tesla's Model Y and Model 3 remain the top two sellers for the year so far, but several other automakers are gaining ground. Toyota and Lexus posted the biggest growth, with EV sales up 328% and 442% from last year. Rivian sales rose 46%, and Subaru grew 31% on the strength of its new electric SUV lineup. Hyundai's IONIQ 5 remains the top-selling non-Tesla EV, and the Toyota bZ nearly doubled its sales to rank fourth. The IONIQ 5, Toyota bZ, and Chevrolet Equinox EV are among the more affordable options, starting around $35,000, which matters if you're weighing an EV purchase alongside other home energy upgrades like a heat pump or rooftop solar.

Industry analysts expect further growth to depend on pricing and new models, including the Kia EV3 and Rivian R2, which could shift the sales rankings by year's end.
