Texas to account for almost half of domestic U.S. silicon module production in 2027

October 15, 2026 · PV Magazine USA · Score: 41

Texas is on track to make more than 45% of all U.S.-produced silicon solar panels by 2027, according to a new industry forecast. Most of that production will come from a cluster of factories near the I-45 corridor, between the Dallas and Houston areas.

The companies driving this include SEG Solar, Canadian Solar, Waaree Energies, and TOYO Solar. Many of them got up and running faster by converting existing warehouses and industrial buildings instead of constructing new factories from scratch, which cut down the time between choosing a site and starting production. Texas has also drawn in aerospace, automotive, and other advanced manufacturing alongside solar, thanks to business-friendly tax policy and state incentives.

Looking further out, several companies are planning new factories in Texas to make solar cells (the components that go inside panels), along with suppliers of raw materials setting up nearby to support them. Tesla's presence in the state adds to this buildup. By 2030, this concentration of manufacturing could make Texas hard for other states to compete with on attracting solar investment, and it's expected to build up a large, specialized factory workforce there.

For homeowners, this doesn't change rebates or incentives available right now. But as more panels get made domestically, particularly in Texas, it could shape where the solar equipment installed on American roofs comes from in the next few years.
