Tesla Semi launch sneak peek: several customers are being announced

September 24, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 5

Tesla is showing off its Semi electric truck tonight at a launch event for its new factory in Nevada, and photos from outside the plant show trucks branded for PepsiCo, DHL, US Foods, ArcBest, Einride, and several other freight companies lined up for the occasion. Most of these are repeat or growing customers - PepsiCo took the first Semis back in 2022, DHL got its first truck last December, and companies like Einride and IMC Logistics have placed large recent orders. A few names, including US Foods and OK Produce, haven't been confirmed as Semi buyers before, so Tesla may use the event to announce new deals.

None of this changes anything for homeowners directly - the Semi is a heavy-duty truck for freight companies, not a home product. But the article notes that fleets switching to electric trucks are chasing the same savings homeowners can get from solar: controlling your own electricity source protects you from rising rates. It points out that electricity prices rose almost 10% last year and are expected to keep climbing, and mentions that solar can now be installed with no upfront cost through lease or power-purchase agreements.

The bigger truck story is really about whether Tesla can turn press-event hype into real production. The new factory can build 50,000 trucks a year, but analysts expect Tesla to deliver only 5,000 to 15,000 this year, so there's still a big gap between announced orders and trucks actually on the road.
