Taiga Launches OS-5 Software, Bringing Industry-First Geofencing Its Electric Fleet
This one isn't really about home energy upgrades. Taiga, a Canadian maker of electric snowmobiles and personal watercraft, has rolled out a new operating system for its vehicles called OS-5. The update adds built-in mapping and a geofencing feature, which lets owners or rental operators draw zones on a map where the vehicle automatically slows down. That could mean speed-limited areas for new riders, or low-speed zones near shorelines, wildlife habitat, or busy tourist spots that Taiga sets up with local communities.
The software also lays groundwork for future updates delivered wirelessly and, eventually, more autonomous features in these electric snowmobiles and watercraft. The update is being shown off at the Monaco Yacht Show and will reach existing Taiga vehicles through a remote software update in the coming weeks.
This is company news about recreational electric vehicles, not a home upgrade program. It has no bearing on heat pumps, insulation, rebates, or anything else tied to household energy use. If you own one of these Taiga vehicles, it's worth knowing your unit may get new mapping and speed-limiting features automatically. Otherwise, there's nothing here that affects your house.
