Sustainability leadership moves

August 24, 2026 · Trellis (formerly GreenBiz) · Score: 21

This is corporate news about sustainability executives at large companies, not something that changes what's available to homeowners planning energy upgrades.

The rundown covers a wave of leadership changes at major corporations and standards organizations this year. Pankaj Bhatia, who spent two decades running the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (the widely used system companies use to measure their emissions), resigned, as did Alberto Carrillo Pineda, a co-founder of the Science Based Targets initiative, which vets corporate climate goals. Cynthia Cummis, who helped build both of those standards, moved to a consulting firm called ClimeCo.

Elsewhere, companies including Netflix, McDonald's, Levi Strauss, Gap, 3M, Starbucks, Procter & Gamble, Nike, Mattel, Agilent and Rolls-Royce all saw changes in their top sustainability jobs this year, through resignations, retirements, layoffs, or executives moving between companies. Starbucks combined its sustainability and social-impact leadership into one role as part of broader layoffs. GHG Protocol also brought on its first-ever CEO, Tim Mohin, as it works with international standards bodies on updates to its emissions guidelines.

None of this changes any rebate program, tax credit, or technology available to homeowners. It reflects how corporate sustainability departments are being restructured and consolidated as the field matures, which may eventually influence how companies report their climate progress, but has no direct bearing on home energy upgrades or incentives.
