Solar Energy Industries Association to Combine with Coalition for Community Solar Access, Strengthening Advocacy for Entire Solar & Storage Industry Across the Country

September 17, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 32

Two solar industry trade groups are joining forces. The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the largest national trade group for solar and storage, is combining with the Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA), which has represented community solar developers and businesses for about a decade. The merger takes effect in early October, with CCSA folding its staff, resources, and policy work into SEIA.

For homeowners, this is mainly an industry and policy story rather than something that changes your options right away. Community solar lets people who can't install panels on their own roof — renters, or homeowners with shaded or unsuitable roofs — buy into a shared solar project and get credit on their electric bill. With CCSA now part of SEIA, there's a single, larger organization lobbying on behalf of the entire solar and storage industry, from big utility-scale projects down to home rooftop systems and community solar programs, at both the state and federal level.

The announcement notes that solar and storage together made up more than 70% of new power added to the U.S. grid so far in 2026, and that battery storage had its biggest quarter ever in the second quarter of the year. That growth suggests more solar and storage options, including community solar programs, may keep expanding in various states. If you're weighing rooftop solar, a battery, or a community solar subscription, it's worth checking what's currently available and what incentives exist where you live, since programs and eligibility vary by state.
