Sol Systems developing 123-MW solar portfolio in Illinois

July 16, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 18

A developer called Sol Systems is moving forward with a large solar power project in central Illinois, spanning Knox, Tazewell, and Peoria Counties. The 123-megawatt portfolio, spread across more than 900 acres, has secured its financing and is set to begin construction. SOLV Energy, which has worked with Sol Systems before on another Illinois solar project, will handle the construction and engineering work.

This is a utility-scale project, meaning the power it generates will feed into the regional grid rather than power individual homes directly. Still, it's worth knowing about if you live in or near these counties, since the project is expected to bring around 300 construction jobs and generate more than $25 million in property tax revenue over the long term for local communities. That tax revenue can end up supporting schools, roads, and other local services in the area.

For homeowners elsewhere, this news doesn't change what's available for rooftop solar or home energy upgrades. It's a sign of continued solar development in Illinois, which may be useful context if you're tracking clean energy trends in your state, but it doesn't affect individual rebate programs or incentives for home solar installations. If you're considering solar panels or other energy upgrades for your own house, the programs and rebates that apply to you will be separate from large commercial or utility projects like this one.
