SEIA is absorbing the Coalition for Community Solar Access

September 16, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 32

Two solar industry trade groups are joining forces. The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the largest national trade group for solar and battery storage, is absorbing the Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA), which has represented community solar and storage developers for about a decade. The merger takes effect in early October, once both boards approve it, and CCSA's team and policy work will move under SEIA.

Community solar lets people who can't put panels on their own roof — renters, or homeowners with shaded or unsuitable roofs — subscribe to a shared solar project nearby and get credit on their electric bill for the power it produces. With this merger, the group that has pushed for community solar policies at the state and federal level becomes part of the larger solar trade association, which its leaders say will make it a stronger voice on rules and incentives affecting the whole industry, from big utility projects down to home rooftop systems.

For homeowners, this is mostly a behind-the-scenes industry change rather than something that immediately affects your bills or projects. But if you've looked into community solar as an alternative to rooftop panels, it's worth knowing that the organization advocating for that option is restructuring, which could shape how community solar rules and programs develop in your state going forward.
