Segway’s new 28 MPH MUXI Pro cargo e-bike gets automatic shifting and regen braking

September 15, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This isn't really an energy-upgrade story for your house, but it's worth a quick note if you've been thinking about replacing car trips with a cargo e-bike. Segway has updated its compact MUXI cargo e-bike with a new "Pro" version, adding automatic electronic shifting (a 9-speed system that changes gears for you), front suspension, and regenerative braking, which recaptures some energy while braking, similar to how hybrid or electric cars work.

The bike can hit a pedal-assisted top speed of 28 mph, and riders can adjust the speed class through an app depending on local e-bike laws, which vary by city and state. It's built to haul cargo and passengers, with a payload rating of 418 pounds and an optional passenger seat for riders up to 120 pounds. A 750-watt motor and 716-watt-hour battery give it a claimed range of up to 73 miles, though actual range will depend on how much weight you're carrying, the terrain, and how much pedal assist you use.

The MUXI Pro also adds hill-descent control, traction control, integrated turn signals, fenders, and GPS tracking with theft-deterrent features. It weighs about 82 pounds and costs $1,999.99, with US sales starting September 22 through Segway dealers and its online store.

If you're weighing whether an e-bike could replace some car trips and cut your household energy or fuel use, this is one more option to compare against other cargo e-bikes on the market.
