Saudia Arabia Launches New Ceer EVs To Compete Against Tesla In It Own Backyard
Saudi Arabia has a new electric car maker of its own. Ceer Motors, backed by the Kingdom's Public Investment Fund and Taiwan's Foxconn, has unveiled its first vehicle, the EXOBOT sedan, with six more models planned over the next five years. The company uses technology licensed from BMW and is building a large manufacturing complex in King Abdullah Economic City. This is mostly a story about global car-making and economic policy rather than something that changes options for US homeowners right now, since Ceer's vehicles are aimed at Saudi Arabia and nearby Gulf markets.
The broader trend is worth knowing about, though. Countries like Saudi Arabia and Türkiye (with its own EV maker, Togg) are investing heavily to build domestic electric vehicle industries, on top of Tesla and Chinese automakers already selling EVs worldwide. Meanwhile, in the US, a Harvard analysis cited in this report estimates that electric vehicle sales would have reached about 48% of new car sales by 2030 under pre-2025 policy, but are now projected to reach only about 38% after policy changes under the Trump administration. That's still a big jump in a few years, but slower than earlier projections.
For homeowners, none of this changes rebates or incentives for home EV chargers or energy upgrades directly. It's a signal, though, that global EV production is expanding fast, even as US adoption growth may be somewhat slower than once expected.
