Renewable Properties acquires 71.8 MW Pennsylvania solar portfolio from Prospect14

September 29, 2026 · PV Magazine USA · Score: 28

A solar developer called Renewable Properties has bought three large solar projects in Pennsylvania, totaling about 72 megawatts, from another developer, Prospect14. The projects are in central and western Pennsylvania and follow an earlier deal between the same two companies in August 2025 for a smaller batch of solar projects. With this purchase, Renewable Properties now has more than 150 megawatts of solar planned or built in Pennsylvania, part of a much larger nationwide pipeline of about 2 gigawatts.

These are utility-scale projects, meaning the power goes into the regional electric grid rather than powering individual homes directly. The company plans to sell the electricity and renewable energy certificates on the wholesale market and also take part in the capacity market run by PJM, the grid operator for a large swath of the mid-Atlantic and Midwest, including Pennsylvania. That capacity market pays power generators for being available to supply electricity when needed, and prices there have jumped sharply, with the most recent auction clearing at $329.17 per megawatt-day, eleven times higher than two years ago. That increase reflects a broader shortage of new power generation in the region.

For homeowners, this deal itself does not change anything directly about your electric bill or available rebates. But it is a sign of how strained the regional power grid has become, and why PJM is now reviewing how its electricity market works, including proposals to speed up how new power projects connect to the grid.
