Nissan Releases Pixo for Europe, Not Yet for Japan

September 26, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 2

Nissan has unveiled a new small electric car called the Pixo, aimed at the European market. It's a compact city car, just under 3.8 meters long, built for tight urban streets and parking. Despite the small size, it holds 356 liters of cargo with the back seats up, or 1,221 liters with them folded down.

The car runs on a 60 kW electric motor and a 27.5 kWh battery using LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry, a battery type known for being cheaper and more durable than some alternatives, though it also means a shorter range. Nissan says it gets up to 259 kilometers per charge on the WLTP test standard. With a fast charger, it can go from 15 to 80 percent battery in about 28 minutes. It also supports bi-directional charging, meaning the car could potentially send power back out, not just take it in. The car will be built at a Renault plant in Slovenia, since Nissan developed it jointly with Renault.

This is a Europe-only release for now. Nissan has not said anything about bringing the Pixo to Japan, and there's no mention of US availability either. Pricing and detailed specs are expected in December, with deliveries to European customers starting in early 2027. For homeowners here, this isn't directly relevant yet, but it's a sign that automakers keep pushing smaller, cheaper EVs with new battery chemistries, which could eventually shape what's available for home charging setups down the road.
