New Construction Safety Organization Puts ‘Workers First’
A new national group called Safety and Health, The Construction Safety Organization, launched September 21 to focus on construction worker safety. It's built around a "Workers First" idea, meaning safety decisions should center on workers' health and well-being rather than just meeting regulations. The group plans to advocate on safety rules, share best practices among contractors, and work to cut injuries and deaths on job sites, where the organization says more than 1,000 construction workers die from occupational injuries each year.
The leadership team includes people with long careers in construction safety, including two former officials from OSHA, the federal agency that sets and enforces workplace safety rules. The organization says it wants to bring together contractors, safety professionals, regulators, and manufacturers to trade ideas that can be put to use on actual job sites, rather than keeping safety innovations locked inside individual companies.
This is industry news rather than something that changes homeowner projects directly. If you hire contractors for HVAC, insulation, or other home upgrades, a stronger focus on jobsite safety among trade groups could eventually shape training and practices in the field. The organization is also offering free and low-cost membership for construction companies, aimed at making safety resources more accessible to smaller contractors who may lack dedicated safety staff.
