NeoVolta US-made BESS to use SK On LFP cells
Two battery makers are teaming up to build more home and business battery storage in the U.S. NeoVolta Power has signed a five-year deal with SK On, a battery cell manufacturer, to supply lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells — a common, stable battery chemistry used in home solar storage systems. SK On will provide 9 gigawatt-hours of U.S.-made cells to NeoVolta from 2027 through 2031, with a broader deal that could bring the total to 18 gigawatt-hours if NeoVolta also starts making battery packs for SK On.
NeoVolta plans to build these battery systems at a new factory in Pendergrass, Georgia, expected to open in the next few weeks. The plant starts with a capacity of 2 gigawatt-hours a year and aims to grow to 8 gigawatt-hours by 2028. The systems are meant for commercial, industrial, and utility-scale projects rather than individual homes, though the push for more U.S.-made battery cells could eventually affect the batteries offered with home solar and storage systems.
For homeowners, this is mostly background news about where battery supply is headed rather than something requiring immediate action. It signals that more battery manufacturing is moving to U.S. soil, which could mean more domestically produced storage options down the road, but no specific home products, prices, or rebates are tied to this announcement yet.
