MG Motors Philippines Launches New EV

September 12, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

This one isn't about home upgrades, but it does touch on home charging equipment, so here's the gist. MG Motor Philippines has launched a new electric SUV, the S5 EV, in the Philippines, priced around $22,380 to $23,180 depending on timing of purchase. The car gets an estimated range of about 258 miles per charge from a 49-kilowatt-hour battery.

The relevant detail for homeowners: MG is including a charging equipment package with early orders, worth about $480, that comes with a 7-kilowatt home wallbox charger and a smaller 3.3-kilowatt portable trickle charger. The car can also fast-charge from 10 to 90 percent in about 24 minutes at public DC fast chargers rated up to 120 kilowatts. If you're weighing an EV purchase and thinking about what it takes to charge at home, this is a reminder that many EV deals now bundle a home charger, which is one less cost to plan for separately if you already have an electrician lined up to install a dedicated circuit.

This launch is specific to the Philippine market, so the pricing, incentives, and charger bundle don't apply directly if you live elsewhere. But it's a sign that automakers are increasingly pairing new EV models with home charging hardware as a standard part of the purchase, which is worth watching if you're considering an EV and want to budget for the charger install at your own house.
