LONGi energy strategy is not just “one plus one”
LONGi, one of the world's largest solar panel makers, is expanding into battery storage. The company's new strategy, called LONGi ONE, bundles solar panels with batteries and the software that manages them, rather than selling panels alone. The idea is that solar power increasingly needs batteries to store electricity generated during the day for use later, especially as more solar on the grid has led to periods of very cheap or even negative-priced electricity in some places.
This is mainly industry and business news rather than something that changes what's available to homeowners right now. LONGi's push includes a plan to set up 30 regional service centers by 2028 to support battery maintenance and technical help, and it recently acquired a company called PotisEdge to gain battery-management technology. The company describes its goal as helping customers decide when to charge and discharge batteries and how to earn revenue from selling stored power back to the grid at the right times.
For homeowners, the practical takeaway is that major solar manufacturers are betting heavily on pairing rooftop or utility solar with battery storage as the next phase of the industry, rather than treating panels as a stand-alone product. If you're considering solar for your own home, this points to batteries playing a bigger role going forward, both for backup power and for managing electricity costs. Specific rebates or programs for home battery systems vary by state, so it's worth checking what's offered where you live.
