Lexus’ electric 3-row SUV makes its first public appearance

September 25, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This is car news, not a home energy story, but here's what's happening. Lexus has shown its first fully electric three-row SUV, the 2027 TZ, driving in public for the first time, ahead of an official launch expected in late 2026 or early 2027. It's built on the same platform as the upcoming Toyota Highlander electric SUV.

The TZ will come with two battery options, 76.96 kWh and 95.82 kWh, with Lexus saying the larger pack can go up to 300 miles on a charge. Every version gets Lexus's all-wheel-drive system, with a combined 420 horsepower and towing capacity up to 3,500 pounds. It can charge at up to 150 kW, going from 10% to 80% in about 35 minutes, and it uses the NACS charging port, meaning it can plug into Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. Inside, it gets an updated infotainment system with route planning that accounts for charging stops and a map showing driving range.

Lexus hasn't announced pricing yet. Based on the expected starting price of the related Toyota Highlander EV, in the mid-$50,000s, the Lexus version is expected to start somewhat higher, in the mid-$60,000 range. For homeowners thinking about a home charger alongside a new EV purchase, none of those details have changed here — this is simply the vehicle's first sighting on the road, not a firm release or pricing announcement.
