LA Metro Secures 220 New Battery-Electric Transit Buses
LA Metro has approved the purchase of 220 battery-electric buses, one of the largest orders of electric transit buses in the country. The deal will more than double the number of electric buses in Metro's fleet and marks a step toward its goal of running an all-electric bus system. The buses are set to arrive before Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, though the benefits are meant to last well beyond that.
For homeowners, this is transit news rather than a home-upgrade program, so there's no rebate or incentive tied to it. But it's a sign of how fast electric transportation is expanding in Southern California, alongside the electric vehicles, chargers, and home battery systems more households are already adopting. A larger electric bus fleet also means less diesel exhaust in neighborhoods along bus routes, which can matter for local air quality.
The Sierra Club, which tracks clean transportation efforts, praised the purchase as a win for cleaner air and healthier communities, while also calling on Metro to make sure the work creates strong, well-paid jobs as it builds out electric bus service. There's no direct action for homeowners here, but it fits into the broader shift toward electrification touching daily life, from how people get around to how they heat and power their homes.
