Kia’s electric van now comes in 10 top hats, including a 7-seater and an upscale Prime model
This is car news, not a home energy story, but here's the gist: Kia has expanded its electric PV5 van into 10 different body styles, adding a 7-seater passenger version, a 5-seater, an upscale "Prime" model, a compact cargo version, and a chassis cab option. The PV5 is built on a modular electric platform that lets Kia swap body styles the way you'd swap Lego pieces, and it's become a strong seller in Europe and Korea since launching in late 2025, with over 39,000 sold globally this year so far.
Kia is also about to reveal a larger sibling called the PV7 on September 14 at a trade show in Germany. Like the PV5, it will come in passenger and cargo versions, and Kia expects to offer similar variants, including a version comparable to the Prime trim. An even bigger model, the PV9, is planned for around 2030. All these vans will be built at a dedicated plant in South Korea capable of producing up to 200,000 electric vans a year.
None of this involves home energy equipment, rebates, or efficiency programs. It's simply an update on Kia's electric van lineup for commercial and passenger use. If you're weighing upgrades for your own house, such as insulation, heat pumps, or electrical work, this news doesn't affect any of that.
